History & Origins

Poland's dance heritage is one of Europe's richest treasures, dating back to the 16th century courts of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Polonaise, once a ceremonial processional dance, became the opening dance at royal balls across Europe, symbolizing dignity and national pride.

The Mazurka, born in the Mazovia region, brought a revolutionary spirit to ballrooms worldwide. Its distinctive triple meter with accents on the second or third beat influenced composers from Chopin to Tchaikovsky, embedding Polish rhythm into the classical canon.

Perhaps most intimate is the Kujawiak, originating from the Kujawy region. This slower, more lyrical cousin of the Mazurka embodies the melancholy and longing of the Polish countryside, with couples moving in sweeping, romantic patterns that speak of love and loss across generations.
